Man Wanted In Crash That Killed 2 Teens Surrenders To Police

December 13, 2017

Two juveniles were riding their bicycles around Terrace Avenue and Leonard Street when investigators report that they were struck by a sedan. The impact of the collision was so strong that it launched one of the juveniles over a fence where he then fell about thirty feet down to the road below. First responders found the first juvenile near an off-ramp from Route 1&9 North, but he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The second juvenile, who was launched over the fence, was treated at the scene at brought to Jersey City Medical Center. The hospital was unable to stabilize him, and he was pronounced dead the next day.

The tragedy was made worse when the driver of the sedan abandoned the scene of the accident. Despite the shattered windshield and heavily damaged front end, the driver took the vehicle to Secaucus Road. He then fled on foot along with three other passengers. Two of the three passengers returned to the scene of the accident. They were transported to Christ Hospital and were treated for minor injuries. One of the passengers who fled is being charged with hindering, while the driver was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The driver did turn himself into the police office two days later, but police are still investigating the incident.
